Interview with the Flying H Polo Club
In this interview with the Flying H Polo Club, Bobbi Stribling the Director of Polo Operations shares all the details with PoloWeekly about their tournament schedule and playing polo in Wyoming. To learn more about the club, visit their website here.
Can you give us a brief background on your club?
The Flying H Polo Club started in 2004. Mr. Summerfield Johnston the owner of the Flying H Ranch had a vision to bring high goal polo to Wyoming.
What makes your club unique?
One of the things that makes The Flying H Polo Club unique is that we hold weekly tournaments and invite teams to come as a pair rather than a team of 4. This provides the pairs the opportunity to play with as many different people as possible including the two high rated club pro’s provided and to create a level playing field.
Do you host tournaments at your club, if so what’s your most important tournament of the year?
We have 8 tournaments during the summer from June 4th thru August 24th. With two USPA Sanctioned tournaments the Skeeter Johnston Memorial Cup & The Flying H Cup. As well as the 9thannual Goose Creek Cup, which is a High Goal Tournament and fundraiser for the Downtown Sheridan Association.
Can members from international clubs come and participate in your tournaments?
Yes, we invite players to come play on some of the best fields in the country, with the most amazing climate.
What kind of other tournaments do your members participate in, do any of your members travel to play?
All of our members travel to come to Wyoming to play for the summer. We have players from Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Florida and Argentina. Most of which also play in the Florida during the winter season.
How many polo ponies does your club currently have?
The Flying H Polo Club has 6 barns with 32 stalls in each barn. We also have paddocks and turnout as well several off site accommodations available.
If someone is interested in coming and taking lessons at your club, what is the best way for them to get started?
We do not offer polo lessons, however the Big Horn Equestrian Center which is adjacent to The Flying H Polo Club offers lessons, and low goal polo tournaments.
