In this interview with the Arizona Polo Club, Diego Florez shares everything you need to know with PoloWeekly – including what makes it special and the best tournaments that you should consider attending. To learn more about the club, visit their website here.

Can you give us a brief background on your club?

The Arizona Polo Club is a remake of previous clubs along with new blood of polo players that are young and eager to learn the proper way to play and enjoy polo. Additionally, members integrate and enjoy the social aspect of the club as well. Right now, we have around 25 active players.

What makes your club unique?

Like many clubs, we have endured hard times together and most of our members see it as their duty to work to improve the Arizona Polo Club and help it growth. As a 501 c3 we benefit from contributions to continue improving the club, the facilities and our other projects throughout the year.

Do you host tournaments at your club, if so what’s your most important tournament of the year?

We certainly do, we host tournaments from -2 to 12 goals as we believe that all levels of play are important. Anything from -2 to 1 goal gets new people motivated to play as they develop and continue to improve their skills.

The local 2-4 goal competitions are fast and hard, this is an awesome time for more advanced players.

Our largest polo event throughout the year is called the polo party. This event brings in over 13,000 people over 2 days. And we’re fortunate to have people from all over the United States, England, South America and beyond coming to attend.  This event started 9 years ago and it has done wonders to develop interest and increase the general awareness of polo.

Can members from international clubs come and participate in your tournaments?

Yes, we love hosting international players and we have horses available for them to rent.

What kind of other tournaments do your members participate in, do any of your members travel to play?

Our members typically travel to California, New Mexico and other places to play. For tournaments that are within a reasonable distance we usually bring our own ponies with us but we rent the ponies when we have to travel further.

How many polo ponies does your club currently have?

We currently have 75 polo ponies at the Arizona Polo Club.

Are you seeing a lot of new people interested in playing polo?

Yes, we are seeing a few new people interested in playing and smaller groups that are committed to learning that are just getting started.

If someone is interested in coming and taking lessons at the Arizona Polo Club, what is the best way for them to get started?

To get started with lessons they can either email us at or call us directly at +1 480 201 4530.

Where is the best place for people to learn more information about your club?

The best place to learn more is from our website, which you can access here.
